“Our police, our firemen, our emergency responders…are the defenders of this homeland. And the truth is that whether they have the equipment or not, as we saw in New York and here in Washington, these brave young men and women will enter whatever the hazard is, even not knowing what it is, to help fellow citizens. Knowing that, we have an enormous obligation as a country and as states and cities to assure that our emergency responders are well equipped.”

New York Police and Fireman and Emergency Responders are the finest in the nation, but the federal government has failed them. It’s time for our New York State Leadership to step up to the plate!
Homeland Security has become a cash cow for rural states with much smaller populations. While New York responders are underfunded and unprepared these states have received billions of dollars.
"The money is spread across many agencies. Moving it from one to another and calling it homeland security money. There's no bright line about how to track it and where it's going," -- Corina Eckl, National Conference of State Legislatures
These funds are being wasted in those states, and should in large part, be used to prepare and train New York States’ (New Jersey, Connecticut, and other high risk states) first line of defense – our cops, our firemen, and our emergency responders. The next terrorist attack is more likely to occur in Manhattan than River Falls Idaho.
Our State Leadership should be exposing this manipulation of our security for what it is! An Outright Shame. |
